Even though this weekend is an SNRA Nitrous Pro Mod weekend, our hometown boys were itching to get out and do some racing this weekend at their favorite track, come watch Mike and Michael Neal, father/son duo duke it out against each other in some heads up blower on blower grudge racing! This Saturday May 19th at the Emerald Coast Dragway…
May 19 2018 – Southern Nitrous Racer Association Pro Mods will be in town along with the staging lanes packed full of heads up racing action, proceeds to benefit the Harrell family.
An auto accident involving an impaired driver hitting 4 members of our ECD team head on has resulted in the loss of 17yr old Sidney Michaela Dowdy and her sister 7yr old Stormie Harrell. Not only were these girls regulars at the track but they are the children of Matt (and Melanie) Harrell whom you may know as the loud guy with the head set on often found in the front of the staging lanes and the sisters of Devon Harrell whom you may know as the guy on the starting line flipping the starter switch for you and putting out the flames when your car decides to catch on fire. While these girls had health insurance through both parents jobs, they did not have life insurance.
The Emerald Coast Dragway will donate 50% of Saturday’s proceeds after race purse payout and expenses to the family.
East River Smoke House has donated 1000 BBQ sandwich plates with 100% of the proceeds going to the family.
Hobbie Lee has donated 100% of proceeds from photo sales for the weekend to the family.
Support is pouring in like crazy… $15 Friday, $20 Saturday, $30 for a weekend pass, kids 12 & under in free. Gates at 4pm on Friday, 10am Saturday, weekend camping is welcome with a weekend pass. Lets pack the house and make sure this racing family has one less thing to worry about!
The Emerald Coast Dragway will not be opening for its planned Friday Frenzy on May 11th or the NHRA Summit ET Series race planned for May 12th.
This past Sunday afternoon, an SUV containing 4 members of the ECD team was struck head on by an impaired driver near Pensacola, claiming the lives of 17 year old Sidney Micheala Dowdy that you’ve likely seen behind the glass in the tower or handing out ET slips as well as her 7 year old sister Stormie Harrell whom you’ve likely seen running around the pits or playing in the tower if you’re a regular at ECD. These girls are the daughters of Matthew Harrell whom you all know as the guy with the head set in the front of the staging lanes and the sister of Devon Harrell whom is our starter and head of special projects here at the track and ultimately children and sisters to all of us who call ECD home.
May 19th we have decided to make the SNRA Pro Mod race a benefit race with proceeds benefitting the Harrell family, that along with the May 18th Friday Frenzy preceding the Pro Mod race will be our next scheduled openings. More details to follow on that in the near future. Your patience and understanding is appreciated at this time. -Team ECD
