Milliken’s Cummins powered 66 Chevy II has been sitting patiently under a car cover since late last week when the June 16th attempt at this race was rained out and is itching to tear up the 28 Extreme N/T class this weekend at the Emerald Coast Dragway. The weather for this weekend is finally turning in our favor and if you’re like the rest of us, you’re pacing the halls waiting for it to be Friday already!

This car is not only reported to be the fastest diesel powered door car on the planet but is looking to climb the ranks of the fastest X275 cars regardless of fuel type.  It made its debut the first time roughly 7 years ago as renowned chassis builder Mickey Tessner’s personal car, purpose built for the Leaf Spring classes held at major radial races and at one point in time held the record for being the fastest radial car on leaf springs, period.  Milliken purchased the car as a roller winter of 2016 at the PRI Trade show, 8 weeks later it made its second debut at the Lights Out race at SGMP, February of 2017, this time powered by a 6.8L iron block Cummins, weighing in at over 3700lbs and none the less, learning lots of valuable lessons on its first trip out with its diesel power plant.

Since then the car has dropped roughly 250lbs and has successfully raced numerous X275 races, NMCA Street Outlaw races, Small Tire N/T Shootout’s across the southeast and is coming into this event with it’s last passes at a 29N/T race at Lyons Raceway Park in Indiana where Milliken piloted the car to the final 3 before the skies fell out and rained the rest of the race out.

We’d like to welcome our NHRA Summit ET racers to our July 7th blowout, Saturday’s format will be a “twofer”, two races in one day for those of you that can find an index or heads up class to fit in during our evening program! Sportsman ET will be ran on Friday night in conjunction with our Friday Frenzy test & tune session, Pro and Super Pro as well as Jr Dragsters will be ran Saturday morning and into the early afternoon.  Eliminations on these classes should be wrapped up or at least to the semi-finals before we dive into our action packed evening program.  For those Summit ET Series competitors that can fit in a class we’re racing with the evening program feel free to stick around and get another chance at running for the money!

$15 thru the gate Friday night, $20 thru the gate all day Saturday, or $30 for a weekend pass, camping is welcomed Friday and Saturday night, power hookups available, VP racing fuel and nitrous fill station on site.

Gates open at 4pm Friday, tech inspection open at 5pm, track hot by 6pm for Friday Frenzy test & tune, time shots at 7pm and 730pm for Sportsman ET, eliminations to start at 8pm and run to completion. Track secure by 11pm unless circumstances dictate we run later.

Gates open at 9am Saturday morning, tech inspection open by 10am, time shots for all Summit ET Series competitors at 11am & 12pm, eliminations to begin no later than 1pm and run to completion. Test & tune for our evening competitors will be open throughout the afternoon, just listen for lane assignments over the PA or by tuning into 97.1FM.

The evening program will start winding up at 4pm where we will call our first round of qualifying to the lanes for all index classes and time shots for the evening Jr Dragster class.  First round qualifying for Pro Mod, No Mod & 5.70 Real Street is yet TBD and is dependent on what time our American Flag wielding parachutists will be joining us so stay tuned! Sunset is scheduled to be 7:53pm so expect the first running of the Jet Car somewhere around there meanwhile eliminations will run into the evening until completion.  See class details below:

Due to endless amounts of rain leading up to this weekend and nothing but more behind it forecasted for all weekend we have no choice but to wave off our planned June 16th South Coast Heads Up Series. The good news is we had next weekend open and almost everyone we’ve been in contact with is able to race next weekend with us so we are in business!

We are running the same flyer and classes for next weekend with a date/time adjustment. Saturday’s racing schedule has been bumped forward a few hours so we can race into the evening due to expected summer afternoon weather this time of year.

The wildly controversial True Street (TS) class will be racing this week as part of the South Coast Heads Up Series at the Emerald Coast Dragway.  There are many organizations running this class, each with their own spin on things but what it boils down to is that a competitive true street car is more often than not a wolf in sheeps clothing.  It’s often argued that a true street car should be limited to a daily driver type car with some bolts on and maybe a different set of tires but that ideology couldn’t be further from the intent of the spirit of the true street class.

Many heads up race cars have solid engines with no means of cooling, light weight lithium ion batteries and no alternator and tiny fuel cells, these amenities keep the engine cooled, powered and fueled for the duration that the car needs to run to complete an A-B pass down the drag strip and that’s about it, otherwise requiring to be towed to the starting line and off the end of the track.  This is where a “true street” car differs from a typical heads up car in the fact that not only per the rules but in order to complete their required 30 mile cruise they have to have water cooled engines with radiators and fans, heavier AGM or lead acid batteries with alternators and enough fuel to complete the cruise and pull directly into the staging lanes ready to race.

Jeremy Sparks (pictured), currently #5 on the 850 Top Ten list in the true street class, intends on bringing his true street car out this Saturday to put a hurting on the true street class.  Often disputed but meeting all popular versions of the true street rules, Spark’s 3400lb 91 Fox Coupe is road worthy, street legal and “while not considered a daily driver, it is a 100% streetable car”.
